amaze Card Review 2026: Still the Best Way to Earn Miles Overseas?

amaze is the card Singapore miles collectors take overseas. Link your favourite miles credit card to it, and foreign currency spending reaches your bank as a Singapore dollar transaction. You skip the bank’s foreign currency fee of about 3.25% and still earn your card’s miles.

That trick still works in 2026, and The MileLion still calls amaze “one of the cheapest ways to earn miles on overseas spend”. But it has changed. A 1% fee now applies to SGD spend, several banks no longer give rewards on amaze transactions, and InstaPoints only come from the prepaid Wallet.

I went through amaze’s two modes, its fees and spreads, which cards still earn, the InstaPoints changes and the current referral terms, and set it against YouTrip and Wise. Here is the complete, honest verdict.

What Is amaze?

amaze is a Mastercard debit card from Instarem, a brand of Nium Pte. Ltd. Nium holds a Major Payment Institution licence (PS20200276) from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, per our amaze referral page. It is not a bank, and amaze Wallet balances are e-money, not SDIC-insured deposits.

The card has two modes you switch between in the app:

  • amaze Link: link up to five Singapore-issued Mastercard credit or debit cards. amaze converts foreign currency spend to SGD at its own rate and charges your linked card in SGD.
  • amaze Wallet: a prepaid wallet you top up by PayNow or other methods, with 0% FX markup on foreign currency spend in 11 currencies, and overseas ATM withdrawals up to S$1,000 a day.

There is no annual fee. The card comes with up to US$100,000 of travel medical insurance and in-app travel eSIM discounts.

amaze Fees in 2026: The Full Breakdown

  • FX spread: about 2% over the Mastercard rate, per The MileLion’s August 2026 review. Our referral page puts it at up to 2.1%.
  • No separate foreign currency fee from amaze, and none from your bank, because the bank sees an SGD charge.
  • 1% fee on transactions that are already in SGD (minimum S$0.50), since 10 March 2025.
  • You only see the rate after the transaction.
  • No InstaPoints. Your linked card’s own rewards apply.

Wallet Mode (Prepaid)

  • 0% FX markup. Rates are near mid-market on weekdays, with a spread of about 1% at weekends.
  • You can see the rate before you spend, and lock in rates for supported currencies.
  • Earns 0.5 InstaPoints per S$1 (minimum S$10 transaction).
  • Overseas ATM withdrawals up to S$1,000 a day.

Other Fees

  • Annual fee: none.
  • Card replacement: up to S$9 if compromised, sometimes waived.

Hidden Costs to Know About

The 2% spread is the price of the miles. On S$1,000 of overseas spend in Link mode, you pay about S$20 in spread and earn 4,000 miles on a 4 mpd card. That works out to about 0.5 cents a mile, a fair price. In Wallet mode, you would pay almost nothing but earn only 500 InstaPoints.

SGD spend costs 1%. Do not leave amaze as your default card at home. A S$100 SGD purchase costs S$1 extra.

Holds go straight to your credit card. amaze is a debit card, so hotel and car rental holds are charged to your linked card immediately and refunded later, possibly at a different rate.

Disputes go through Instarem. If there is fraud, you deal with Instarem, not your bank, and The MileLion describes its process as slower.

Which Credit Cards Still Earn With amaze?

This is the most important part of any amaze review, and it changes often. As of August 2026, per The MileLion:

BankEarns rewards on amaze?
Citi (e.g. Citi Rewards)Yes, except some AXS, transit, EZ-Link and wallet top-up transactions
Maybank (e.g. XL Rewards)Yes, with the same exclusions as Citi
OCBC (e.g. Rewards card)Yes
DBS and POSBNo
DCSNo
UOBNo

amaze transactions keep the merchant’s category code but add “AMAZE*” to the description, which can lose bonuses on cards that look at the description. Always check your card’s latest terms before a trip.

InstaPoints: Earning and Redeeming

InstaPoints are only earned on Wallet spend, at 0.5 points per S$1. Since March 2025, card-linked spend earns no InstaPoints.

Redemptions, after cashback returned on 9 September 2026 per The MileLion:

  • 2,000 InstaPoints = S$25 cashback (once a calendar month).
  • 1,000 InstaPoints = S$5 cashback.
  • 1,200 InstaPoints = 400 KrisFlyer miles.
  • Discounts on Instarem overseas transfers.

Points expire 12 months after they are credited. At 0.5 points per dollar, InstaPoints are a small bonus. The referral reward is the easiest way to get a useful amount.

The Honest Assessment: What Holds Up and What Does Not

Miles on overseas spend hold up. Paying about 2% instead of 3.25% while earning 4 mpd on the right card is still one of the best deals for miles collectors.

The Wallet is a solid travel card. 0% FX markup, rates you can see in advance, and ATM withdrawals make it a fair YouTrip alternative.

Card support has shrunk. DBS, POSB, DCS and UOB cards no longer earn on amaze. If those are your miles cards, amaze is much less useful.

The SGD fee ends the “use it everywhere” trick. The 1% fee on SGD spend means amaze is for overseas spending only.

InstaPoints are thin. 0.5 points per dollar on Wallet spend is a token reward, though the return of cashback helps.

YouTrip and Wise figures from our YouTrip review and Wise Singapore review. Check amaze’s current ATM fees in the app.

Use amaze Link if you have a Citi, Maybank or OCBC miles card and want miles on overseas spend.

Use YouTrip or Wise if you want the lowest FX cost and do not care about miles.

Many travellers carry both: amaze for card spend, YouTrip or Wise for cash and small purchases.

Who Should Use amaze

amaze is a strong fit if:

  • You collect miles and spend overseas.
  • Your miles card is from Citi, Maybank or OCBC.
  • You want to avoid the bank’s 3.25% foreign currency fee.
  • You want a prepaid travel wallet as a backup.
  • You like getting S$25 cashback from InstaPoints.

amaze is not a strong fit if:

  • Your miles cards are from DBS, POSB or UOB.
  • You want the absolute cheapest FX rate.
  • You would use it for SGD spending.
  • You book a lot of hotels and car rentals with deposits.
  • You want bank-level fraud handling.

Is amaze Worth It in 2026?

For miles collectors with the right card, yes. Paying about 2% to earn 4 mpd on overseas spend is a good trade, and no other product in Singapore does it as simply.

For everyone else, YouTrip or Wise is cheaper and simpler. amaze’s value depends entirely on which credit card you link.

The test before your next trip: link your card, make one small foreign currency online purchase in Link mode, and check that your bank awarded the miles.

Sign-up offer: new Instarem users who sign up with a referral code and either spend S$100 on the amaze card or send one transfer of S$1,000 or more get 2,000 InstaPoints, which redeem for S$25. They also get a discount on their first overseas transfer. Wallet top-ups to other stored-value cards do not count. The amaze referral guide shows each step.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the amaze card safe?

amaze is issued by Instarem, a brand of Nium Pte. Ltd., which holds a Major Payment Institution licence from MAS. Nium is not a bank, so amaze Wallet balances are e-money and not SDIC-insured. Fraud disputes go through Instarem, not your bank.

What is the amaze FX fee?

In Link mode, amaze charges an FX spread of about 2% over the Mastercard rate, with no separate foreign currency fee. In Wallet mode, there is 0% markup, with rates near mid-market on weekdays and about 1% at weekends. SGD transactions cost 1%.

Which credit cards work with amaze?

Any Singapore-issued Mastercard can be linked, up to five. As of August 2026, Citi, Maybank and OCBC cards still earn rewards on amaze transactions, while DBS, POSB, DCS and UOB cards do not, per The MileLion.

Do I earn InstaPoints on linked card spend?

No. Since March 2025, InstaPoints are only earned on amaze Wallet spend, at 0.5 points per S$1. Linked card spend earns your card’s own rewards instead.

Can I redeem InstaPoints for cash?

Yes, again. Cashback returned on 9 September 2026: 2,000 InstaPoints = S$25 (once a month) and 1,000 InstaPoints = S$5. You can also convert 1,200 InstaPoints to 400 KrisFlyer miles.

Is amaze better than YouTrip?

For miles collectors with a supported card, amaze is better, because you earn card miles on overseas spend. For the lowest FX cost and free ATM withdrawals with no thinking, YouTrip is simpler and cheaper.

Final Verdict

amaze earns 3.9 out of 5 stars.

It earns its best marks for what it was built for: earning credit card miles overseas without the bank’s foreign currency fee. With a Citi, Maybank or OCBC card, that is still one of the best deals in Singapore travel.

The deductions come from shrinking card support, the 1% SGD fee, a 2% spread in Link mode and thin InstaPoints.

Get amaze if you collect miles with a supported card and travel. Use it only overseas, and check your card’s terms before each trip.
