ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini: Which AI Plan Is Worth It in Singapore?
Table of Contents
You open three browser tabs to compare AI subscriptions. One quotes US$20. One quotes US$17 “billed annually”. One quotes S$28.99 and throws in 5TB of storage and YouTube Premium Lite.
None of them tell you what lands on your credit card statement in Singapore.
That is the real question behind ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini. All three are good enough now that the “smartest model” debate matters less than fit and price. Pick the one that matches how you work, pay in the cheapest way and skip the plan you will not use.
I compared the free and paid plans of each, converted every price to Singapore dollars with 9% GST included, and checked what each one does better than the other two. Here are the three AI chatbots worth paying for in Singapore in 2026 — and when the free plan is enough.
What to Look For in an AI Chatbot Subscription
Before you compare features, decide what you are paying for. These five criteria separate a useful subscription from a S$300-a-year habit.
- The real monthly cost in SGD. Overseas digital services carry 9% GST in Singapore, and your bank may add a foreign-currency fee on top of a US-dollar price.
- Usage limits on the plan you can afford. The free plans run out at the worst moment. Paid plans raise the cap, but none of them are truly unlimited.
- How well it handles long documents. Payslips, insurance policies, tenancy agreements and 40-page reports are where a paid plan earns its fee.
- Where it already lives. A chatbot built into the email, documents and phone you already use saves more time than a smarter one in a separate tab.
- What happens to your data. Each service has a setting that decides whether your chats train future models. You should know where it is before you paste anything personal.
ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini in 2026: The Quick Comparison
| Tool | Best For | Starting Price | Free Plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT | All-rounders who want one app for everything | US$8/month (Go), about S$11 with GST | Yes (limited uploads, images and voice) |
| Claude | Long documents, careful writing and coding | US$17/month billed yearly (Pro), about S$24 with GST | Yes (usage resets every five hours) |
| Gemini | People who live in Gmail, Google Docs and Android | S$6.98/month (Google AI Plus) | Yes (with Gmail and Google account) |
The SGD figures use US$1 = S$1.28 (2 October 2026) plus 9% GST. Your card’s exchange rate and fees will move them slightly.
1. ChatGPT — Best All-Rounder
ChatGPT is the default AI app for most people, and for good reason. It writes, searches the web, reads files, creates images, talks back in voice mode and remembers your preferences between chats.
The plan structure is wider than it used to be. Go sits between Free and Plus: more messages, uploads and image generation than the free plan, at a lower price than Plus. OpenAI launched it in Singapore at S$13 a month in early 2026. The trade-off is in the fine print — OpenAI’s pricing page says the Go plan “may include ads”.
Plus is the plan most working professionals land on. It adds the stronger reasoning models, deep research, projects, scheduled tasks and custom GPTs. Pro starts at US$100 a month and is for people who hit Plus limits every day — researchers, developers and agencies.
What ChatGPT is great at:
- Doing a bit of everything well, from a WhatsApp reply to a spreadsheet formula to a holiday packing list.
- Voice mode, which works well for practising a presentation or talking through a decision on the MRT.
- Image creation and editing inside the same chat as your writing.
- Custom GPTs, so you can save a set of instructions once and reuse them for recurring tasks.
Where it falls short:
- The cheapest paid plan may show ads, which is an odd trade for a tool you pay for.
- The plan lineup changes often, so features you rely on can move between tiers.
- Its writing has a recognizable rhythm. Readers spot unedited ChatGPT text quickly.
- It does not plug into Gmail, Google Docs or Outlook as deeply as Gemini or Copilot do.
Pricing:
- Free: S$0, with limited uploads, image creation, voice and deep research.
- Go: US$8 a month (launched at S$13 in Singapore), may include ads.
- Plus: US$20 a month, about S$28 with GST.
- Pro: from US$100 a month, about S$139 with GST, with three usage tiers.
Bottom line: If you want one AI app that handles almost anything and you will use it daily, ChatGPT Plus is the safe choice. If you only use it a few times a week, the free plan is enough.

2. Claude — Best for Long Documents and Careful Writing
Claude is the one people switch to when they are tired of editing AI writing. Its default tone is plainer and less salesy, and it follows detailed instructions closely. That makes it the strongest of the three for anything where wording matters — a cover letter, a client proposal or a reply to your landlord.
It also handles long material well. Upload a 60-page insurance policy, a tenancy agreement or three months of bank statements, and Claude will answer questions about the details instead of summarizing the first five pages. I walk through that use in my AI budgeting guide.
Pro is the plan to look at. At US$17 a month billed yearly (US$200 up front), it is the cheapest of the three flagship plans. It adds at least five times the free plan’s usage, Research, unlimited projects, the Opus models and Claude Code for programming. Max starts at US$100 a month for people who run out of Pro’s limits.
What Claude is great at:
- Writing that sounds like a careful person, not a marketing brochure.
- Reading long PDFs and contracts and pointing to the exact clause that answers your question.
- Projects, where you upload reference files once and every chat in that project uses them.
- Coding help, which is a big reason developers pay for it.
Where it falls short:
- No built-in image generation. If you want pictures, you need another tool.
- Usage limits reset on a five-hour window and a weekly cap. Heavy users hit them, even on Pro.
- It is less woven into daily apps than Gemini, so you will copy and paste more.
- The free plan only includes the lighter models.
Pricing:
- Free: S$0, Sonnet and Haiku models, limits reset every five hours.
- Pro: US$20 a month, or US$17 a month billed yearly — about S$28 or S$24 with GST.
- Max: from US$100 a month, about S$139 with GST, for five or 20 times Pro’s usage.
Bottom line: If most of your AI use is writing, reading documents or code, Claude Pro on the yearly plan is the best value of the three. If you want images or deep Google integration, look elsewhere.

3. Gemini — Best If You Live in Google’s Apps
→ Compare Google AI plans in SGD
Gemini is the only one of the three priced in Singapore dollars on its own website. That alone makes it the easiest to budget for.
The bigger draw is where it sits. Gemini works inside Gmail, Google Docs and Android, and it uses Google Search and Maps. If you already plan your weekends in Google Maps and keep your life in Gmail, it saves steps the other two cannot. It is also my pick when I plan a trip with AI, because it can pull places straight from Maps.
The plans are bundles. Google AI Plus costs S$6.98 a month and includes 400GB of storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos — so if you already pay Google for storage, the AI comes close to free. Google AI Pro costs S$28.99 a month and adds the Pro models, Deep Research, 5TB of storage and YouTube Premium Lite.
What Gemini is great at:
- Working inside Gmail and Google Docs, so you draft and summarize without switching tabs.
- Answers that draw on Google Search and Maps, which helps for local places and opening hours.
- Bundled value: storage and YouTube Premium Lite can replace subscriptions you already pay for.
- A clear SGD price, with GST handled by Google.
Where it falls short:
- Its writing is serviceable but blander than Claude’s, and it needs more editing.
- The bundle is only good value if you use the storage or YouTube perks. Otherwise you pay for extras.
- Some features roll out to the US first and reach Singapore later.
- Its privacy setup is the most complex of the three (more on that below).
Pricing:
- Free: S$0, with your Google account.
- Google AI Plus: S$6.98 a month, 400GB storage, twice the free plan’s limits.
- Google AI Pro: S$28.99 a month, 5TB storage, Deep Research, YouTube Premium Lite.
- Google AI Ultra: from S$139.99 a month.
Bottom line: If you are deep in Google’s apps or already pay for Google storage, Gemini gives you the most for your money. If you use an iPhone and Outlook, the bundle matters less.

What Each Plan Really Costs in Singapore
The pricing pages do not show the full picture. Two extra costs apply to anything priced in US dollars.
GST. Since 2020, overseas companies selling digital services to Singapore consumers must charge GST. At today’s 9% rate, a US$20 plan becomes US$21.80.
Card fees. Most Singapore credit and debit cards add a foreign-currency charge to US-dollar transactions, often around 3%. On a S$28 subscription, that is about 84 cents a month — S$10 a year for nothing.
Here is the yearly cost of the plans most people choose, before card fees:
| Plan | Listed Price | Yearly Cost in SGD (with GST) |
|---|---|---|
| Google AI Plus | S$6.98/month | S$83.76 |
| ChatGPT Go | US$8/month | about S$134 |
| Claude Pro (yearly) | US$200/year | about S$279 |
| ChatGPT Plus | US$20/month | about S$335 |
| Claude Pro (monthly) | US$20/month | about S$335 |
| Google AI Pro | S$28.99/month | S$347.88 |
Three ways to pay less:
- Pay in USD with a no-FX-fee card or a multi-currency account, so the foreign-currency charge disappears. Several of the digital banks in Singapore waive it.
- Choose yearly billing when you are sure. Claude’s yearly plan saves about S$56 against paying monthly.
- Check the app store price. Subscriptions bought through Apple’s App Store or Google Play are priced separately in SGD and can cost more than the website.
How to Choose the Right AI Chatbot
Use this as a decision guide. Start with what you do most.
- If you use AI a few times a week → stay on the free plans. Use two of them and switch when one runs out.
- If you want one app for everything — writing, images, voice, quick questions → ChatGPT Plus.
- If your work is long documents, careful writing or code → Claude Pro, billed yearly.
- If you live in Gmail, Google Docs and Android → Google AI Pro, or AI Plus if you mainly want the storage.
- If you are on a tight budget but want more than free → Google AI Plus at S$6.98, or ChatGPT Go if you do not mind ads.
- If your company pays → ask IT which one is approved before you paste work files into anything.
The mistake to avoid is paying for two flagship plans “just in case”. That is close to S$700 a year. Pick one, use the other’s free plan as backup, and review after three months.

The Best AI Stack for Singapore Professionals
Here is the setup I recommend for most working adults in Singapore:
- One paid plan for your main use — Claude Pro (writing and documents) or ChatGPT Plus (all-round). About S$24–28 a month.
- Gemini free, for anything that touches Google Maps, Gmail or Search.
- The other chatbot’s free plan, as a second opinion when an answer matters.
Total: about S$24–28 a month, or S$279–335 a year.
If you need specialist tools on top — writing, video, email marketing — my roundups of the best AI writing tools and best AI tools for solopreneurs cover what to add.
Before you paste anything personal, check one setting in each app:
- ChatGPT: Settings, then Data controls, then turn off “Improve the model for everyone”. Temporary Chat is not used for training and is deleted within 30 days.
- Claude: Privacy settings, then the Model Improvement switch. Incognito chats are never used for training.
- Gemini: turn off Keep Activity in Gemini Apps Activity. Chats are still kept for 72 hours, and a sample may be reviewed by people.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it OK to use ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini at work in Singapore?
It depends on your employer’s policy, not on the law. Many Singapore companies allow AI tools but ban pasting client data, personal data or confidential documents into consumer accounts. If your company offers an enterprise version, use that for work files. When in doubt, ask IT before you upload anything.
Which AI chatbot is best for beginners?
ChatGPT is the easiest place to start because it does a bit of everything and has the most guides and tutorials. Start on the free plan for two weeks. If you keep hitting limits on one type of task, that tells you which paid plan to buy.
Can ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini search the web for current information?
Yes, all three can search the web, including on their free plans. Gemini draws on Google Search and Maps, which helps for local places and opening hours. Always open the source link for anything that matters, such as prices, government rules or medical information.
Do I still need to check what AI chatbots tell me?
Yes. All three still make confident mistakes, especially with numbers, recent events and Singapore-specific rules. Treat the answer as a first draft and verify key facts with an official source such as IRAS, CPF or MOM.
What is the difference between ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro?
Both cost US$20 a month. ChatGPT Plus covers more ground — images, voice, custom GPTs and a wider app. Claude Pro writes more naturally, handles long documents better and costs less on yearly billing at US$17 a month. Pick ChatGPT for range and Claude for depth.
Do I pay GST on AI subscriptions in Singapore?
Yes. Overseas providers selling digital services to Singapore consumers charge 9% GST. Google’s SGD prices already include it. For US-dollar plans like ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, expect the GST to show at checkout or on your card statement.
Final Verdict
The best AI chatbot in Singapore is the one that fits your week, not the one with the best benchmark.
- ChatGPT Plus — best all-rounder, about S$28 a month with GST.
- Claude Pro — best for writing, long documents and code, about S$24 a month on yearly billing.
- Google AI Pro — best for Google users, S$28.99 a month with storage and YouTube Premium Lite included.
- Google AI Plus — best budget plan at S$6.98 a month.
Try the free plans first. Use each one for a real task you do every week — a work email, a long PDF, a weekend plan — and keep the one you reach for without thinking. Then pay for that one, and only that one.
